Your way to say goodbye.
Personal, meaningful farewells for the people who matter most.
A farewell is more than a funeral.
It's the stories you tell.
The music that makes everyone laugh.
The meal shared afterwards.
The person who insists on wearing their favourite shirt.
The beach they loved.
The friends who show up.
The things that don't fit neatly into a traditional ceremony - but
somehow make it feel completely theirs.
We help families create farewells that feel like the person they're saying goodbye to.
-
We'll talk through what has happened and what needs to happen next.
-
We'll listen, answer questions and help you understand your choices.
-
There is no one-size-fits-all farewell. We'll create something that feels right for your person, your family and your circumstances.
Someone has died,
simple steps.
Take a breath.
You don't have to know what to do.
We'll walk you through it.
There are three simple steps:
“Nothing was impossible. Farewell Collective was a steady ship in a terrible storm.
Connected us with Coroner social workers and other support networks.
Managed all funeral affairs with professionalism and grace. We said goodbye on a quiet private beach in a way that perfectly reflected Kapt Kaysy” KB

take a breath. You don't need to know what to do straight away.
If the death was unexpected: call Emergency Services immediately.
If the death was expected: contact their doctor or palliative care team, who will guide you through the next steps.
You don't have to move them straight away
If the room can be kept reasonably cool, your loved one can usually remain at home for several hours. If you'd like more time for family to visit or to observe cultural or religious practices, Farewell Collective can provide cooling equipment so they can remain at home for longer.
If you have already chosen a funeral director, let them know what has happened and contact them when you're ready.

If someone you love has died in a nursing home or private hospital, the staff will usually contact the family and explain what happens next. Although they often have a list of service providers your person belongs to you. You can choose whoever you would like as a funeral director.
There is often time for family and friends to visit and say goodbye before your loved one is transferred into funeral care.
If you already have a funeral director, let them know what has happened so they can arrange to attend when you are ready.

If someone you love has died in hospital, staff will contact the family and explain what happens next. They will usually allow some time for you to sit with your person before they are moved to the hospital mortuary.
You may be asked if you have chosen a funeral director. If you haven't, that's okay. You can take a day or two to decide. Once appointed, your funeral director will arrange for your loved one to be transferred into their care.
For now, slow down.
You may be exhausted, numb, overwhelmed or feeling many different things at once. You don't need to contact everyone or make decisions straight away.
There is no right or wrong way to respond to a death. No normal way to grieve, and no expectation that you should be coping in any particular way.
Take the time you need. We'll be here when you're ready.

If someone you love has died suddenly or in traumatic circumstances, the police and/or Coroner may need to be involved. This can make an already difficult time feel particularly confusing and overwhelming.
The police or Coroner will explain what needs to happen and may need to take your loved one into their care while the circumstances of the death are investigated. You do not need to arrange a funeral or make decisions immediately. We can help in the meantime with connecting you with Coroner Social workers.
Farewell Collective Sydney are very experienced in this area and can liaise with the relevant authorities and be ready to help when your loved one is ready to be released back to their family.
Farewell Collective can help guide you through all practical arrangements when the time is right.
For now, take things slowly. There may be very little you can do except wait.
You don't have to navigate this alone.
